Important Update
Important Update: Des Moines GMRS Radio Club Meetings & FacilitiesDear Members,
We want to share a few important updates regarding our club’s meetings and facilities due to recent changes in participation.
Clubhouse Status: We have noticed very little use of the clubhouse or its resources by members. As of January 1, 2026, the clubhouse will permanently be taken out of service and locked. If you have any equipment or personal items stored there, please contact us before that date so we can arrange for you to retrieve your belongings. Future Meetings: Our decision regarding whether we will continue holding regular club meetings will be based entirely on attendance at our August meeting. Consistent participation is necessary for us to sustain events, so we strongly encourage all members who enjoy GMRS communications and hands-on operation to attend.Thank you to everyone who has participated in our events or supported the club in any way. We value your engagement with GMRS radio and hope to see a stronger turnout moving forward. Please reach out if you have any questions or suggestions.

The General Mobile Radio Service, or GMRS radios are intended for personal use in general communications. A license is required, but covers an entire family for an entire decade. While it shares some channels with FRS, it offers more power, range and versatility than lower wattage FRS radios, and with fewer limitations. GMRS radios are available in portable handheld models at up to 5 watts and mobile/base station models at up to 50 watts of power. The GMRS also allows the use of external antennas and repeaters for even greater range.
